About DMannose
DMannose is D-mannose powder, a complementary medicine which supports urinary tract health. It has a single ingredient, D-mannose, derived from glucose and corn.
D-mannose is a simple sugar that occurs naturally in some plants and in the body. Some studies suggest it may interfere with the way certain bacteria attach to cells in the urinary tract, which in theory may help protect it.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor or other healthcare provider before taking D-mannose. The safety and efficacy of D-mannose during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. How does it work exactly?
D-mannose occurs naturally in the body. Only small amounts are metabolised, and much of it passes out in the urine. D-mannose is not an antibiotic and does not kill bacteria. Supplemental D-mannose may interfere with the way certain bacteria attach to the lining of the urinary tract, which in theory may help protect it.
